Town Water Meter Project
What is the Project?
Town of Ticonderoga is executing preliminary engineering and design work, followed by construction, for the installation of water meters for water and sewer users in the Town. The Consolidated Water District operates under Public Water Supply ID #NY1500293 to provide water to approximately 1,645 residential and commercial service connections and 3,700 users. There are also 103 users in the formerly Village-owned district called Eagle & Chilson Lake Water District. These users are not served by the Town’s potable water system but draw water from Gooseneck Pond under a stringent filtration avoidance.
Through the implementation of a Town-wide metering program, the Town will be able to accurately monitor the actual water usage at each service connection within the distribution system. Meters will also allow for accurate billing of water used, will assist in water conservation and reduce waste, and will enable the Town to determine and locate leakage within the distribution system. To establish a water meter program for the Town, and comply with the current Water Withdrawal Permit, the Town has authorized MJ Engineering to prepare a design report

Why is this Necessary?
In April 2019, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) issued an updated Water Withdrawal Permit to the Town. Under Condition 25, the Town is required to establish and implement a water meter program to improve water conservation and reduce usage within five years of the permit issuance. An extension was requested to the DEC by the Town in May 23, 2025, that provides the anticipated project completion date of December 2027.
